From the center of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, crossing the suggestive streets, follow the provincial road SP13 towards Isola Santa, a characteristic village on the lake of the same name that is certainly worth a visit. After passing the hamlet, follow the road “mare-monti”on the right that climbs to Capanne di Careggine with the wonderful views of the Apuan Alps from Passo di Scala (805 mt. asl).

Arriving at the Maestà della Formica, go up to the right to Passo della Foce (1085 m asl). From here the route goes downhill, to the villages of Croce di Stazzana, Colle and Cerretoli until the junction on the right that goes up to the Fortress of Mont’Alfonso.

After visiting the fortress, continue the road to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.
