The “Ducato Estense Coast to Coast” is a cycle / pedestrian pathway that connects all those territories that have been part of the Ducato Estense today enhanced by a large project financed by MiBACT.

The itinerary Via degli Appennini from the capital to Garfagnana, in 5 stages for a total of 240.40 km, starts from Modena and, through the Reggia di Sassuolo, connects to the villages and fortifications of the Garfagnana valley: a path of great scenic charm which retraces in some places the ancient road that connected the capital of the Duchy to the Garfagnana, a strategic territory because it projected the Estensi towards the control of an outlet on the Tyrrhenian Sea.
